Murder suspect in Na’Ziyah Harris case appearing in court on unrelated sexual assault charges

Jarvis Butts facing 2 charges in connection to 2013 sexual assault case

WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – The Detroit man accused of killing his 13-year-old niece is expected to appear in court on Monday regarding another case.

Jarvis Butts was charged with the sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl in 2013.

Butts allegedly sexually assaulted the victim at a home in Allen Park. He was charged with First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct and Third-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct.

He is expected to appear in court on July 28 for his preliminary examination hearing. During the hearing, a judge will determine if there is enough evidence presented by the prosecutor’s office for trial.

He is also heading to trial for allegedly sexually assaulting and murdering Na’Ziyah Harris, a 13-year-old girl who disappeared in January 2024.
