EASTPOINTE, Mich. – A long-standing effort by the Michigan Military Technical & Historical Society to acquire a monument tank for display on the front lawn of their museum in Eastpointe is close to materializing.
The tank planned for the museum is an M8 Armored Gun System, an American light tank designed to succeed the M551 Sheridan. Originally developed in the 1980s, this tank is closely connected to the Cadillac Gage Stingray light tank prototype, which was developed in Warren. The museum already holds substantial archival materials on the Stingray project, making the M8 a fitting addition to its mission.

However, assistance is needed to facilitate the installation.
The display requires a reinforced concrete pad measuring 25 feet by 10 feet, engineered to support a 20-ton tank safely. The museum will also bear the costs of transporting the tank and demilitarizing it to ensure it is non-operational. Once installed, the tank will need repainting due to its currently faded condition.
The Michigan Military Technical & Historical Society is seeking to raise $10,000 to fund this historic display. As of July 30, contributions have reached $3,425 of the goal.
