Michigan woman charged with murder allegedly shot husband in back of head
MACOMB COUNTY, MI – A Michigan woman has been charged with the murder of her husband. Claretta Johnson, 42, of Eastpointe was charged with second-degree murder and felony firearm after she allegedly shot her husband in the back of the head following an argument on Dec. 27, Macomb County Prosectuor Peter J. Lucido announced Wednesday. “Gun violence is not the answer to an argument,” Lucido said in a statement. Johnson is also prohibited from contacting her children, who were in the home at the time of the alleged offense, prosecutors said. A probable cause hearing will be held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 10 and a preliminary exam is scheduled for Jan. 17 in Eastpointe District Court.

He was arrested after Eastpointe police were dispatched to a Foot Locker on 8 Mile Road on Monday. As a result of the investigation, a search warrant was executed at Jones’ home in the 23000 block of Courtland Avenue. The search resulted in the seizure of the stolen property and Jones was arrested without incident.

Eddie Kabacinski entered the plea Monday and was placed on probation for one year with a condition that the case could be dismissed if he stays out of trouble, according to the Associated Press. The case stems from a October 2020 incident in Eastpointe in which Kabacinski handcuffed a woman who allegedly placed “Black Lives Matter” stickers on campaign signs promoting former President Donald Trump. Kabacinski was accused of chasing the woman down and illegally detaining her. Kabacinski’s lawyer, Stephen Rabaut said the case will be reviewed in six months by the judge who will determine if any further action is necessary.

Teen allegedly carjacks family at gunpoint outside their home
EASTPOINTE, MI – An 18-year-old is accused of carjacking a family at gunpoint over the weekend outside their home in Eastpointe, authorities said. Jaylien Crandall Weaver, 18, of Roseville, is accused of approaching a family outside their home while wearing a ski mask and gloves and carrying a gun around 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10, WDIV Local 4 reports. He allegedly pointed the gun at the family and demanded the keys to their vehicle. Police officers later spotted the stolen vehicle and pursued until it stopped and two people got out and fled on foot, the report said. About an hour later, an officer spotted Weaver dropping a sweatshirt near railroad tracks; he was arrested without further incident.

They found the child suffering from a gunshot wound to his left foot. The gun the child found was a .40-caliber Sig Sauer allegedly owned by his uncle, Laron Genta Alston, who was watching the child when the incident occurred, the report said. Officers seized that gun and a second handgun that was found in the home.

Still allegedly used a computer to open three false car insurance policies in Carter’s name. On Tuesday, Judge Kathleen G. Galen of the 38th District Court sent the case to Macomb County Circuit Court for trial. Still is scheduled to be arraigned in the circuit court on Aug. 8.

EASTPOINTE, MI – Shortages in auto parts amid the COVID-19 pandemic have led to a strange trend among criminals looking to make a quick buck – they are targeting Chevy Equinoxes and Malibus to steal the steering wheel, FOX 2 Detroit reports. In Eastpointe, police took 11 reports of steering wheel thefts on May 2 and 3 alone, the TV station reports. The goal is to get the airbags – which are in short supply – and sell them to auto shops. But as entire steering wheels are lifted, the victims are left in lurch as the replacement can take weeks to months due to shortages arising from the scheme. Experts suggest using a club lock or disk lock on steering wheels to avoid becoming a victim, the report said.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pounder becomes the Wolverines’ first receiver in the 2022 class but joins a long list of four-star prospects Michigan has landed at the position under Jim Harbaugh. Since his first full recruiting class in 2016, 12 of the 17 receiver prospects (70.5%) the Wolverines have netted were rated as four-star prospects or better, including Trent, the No. Johnson is currently Michigan’s tallest receiver on the roster at 6-foot-3, so Trent will give the team some needed size on the outside. A breakout season from Michigan’s offense would only help in the program’s recruiting efforts.

Additionally, according to the National Center for Health Statistics at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 70,000 Americans died from drug-related deaths in 2017.CARE of Southeastern Michigan will be working with safety organizations and school districts in Wayne and Macomb counties to provide the free service, including the following locations:A list of all participating locations in metro Detroit can be found at takebackday.dea.gov
