TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. – The man accused of stabbing 11 people at a Walmart in Traverse City appeared in court on Wednesday, and a judge increased his bond to $1 million.
The stabbing happened at about 5 p.m. on July 26. The weapon used in the attack was a folding knife with a 3.5-inch cutting blade, officials said. The motive is still unknown.
Eleven people were injured and taken to Munson Medical Center. As of July 30, one patient is in fair condition, five are in good condition, two were treated and transferred, and three have been treated and released, according to the hospital.
Bradford James Gille, 42, was charged with one count of terrorism and 11 counts of assault with intent to murder.
He was arraigned on July 28, and his bond was set at $100,000.

Gille appeared in court virtually for a bond hearing on Wednesday, July 30, where a prosecutor asked a judge to revoke or increase his bond.

The prosecutor was concerned about the possibility of Gille being bailed out of jail, while his defense attorney said that there was no need or justification to raise his bond because his family members have no intention of paying it, or the resources to.
The judge noted his prior criminal history, which includes allegations of assault, controlled substance violations, and disinterment and mutilation of bodies, and increased Gille’s bond to $1 million cash/surety.
When modifying the bond, the judge said that the victims and the community should not be in fear that another situation like the Walmart stabbing could happen if Gille were out on bond. He also noted concerns about Gille not appearing for future court dates if he were released.
If released, Gille must wear a GPS tether, and he also cannot have any contact with the victims or their families.
