Jackknifed semi-truck causes I-696 to shut down for hours

A jackknifed semi-truck caused I-696 to shut down for hours early Thursday morning.

It happened at around 3:30 a.m. on July 31.

Michigan State Police said there were no injuries in the crash, but traffic is backed up for miles.

Both directions were closed all morning, but westbound I-696 reopened at around 7 a.m.

Detours

If traveling on I-75, take eastbound 12 Mile to southbound Mound to get back on I-696.

Another detour can be westbound I-696 to northbound Mound to westbound 12 Mile to southbound I-75 to get back on westbound I-696.
