Man charged with murder in fatal Detroit gas station shooting

Hazel Park man faces possible life sentence

DETROIT – A 30-year-old man from Hazel Park has been charged with murder after a deadly shooting at a Detroit gas station.

The shooting happened at a Marathon on Puritan Avenue early Monday, July 28. Two people -- 34-year-old Maria Jenkins and 32-year-old Martin Clay -- were killed and two women were injured.

Police believe Jaylen Lee Robinson got into an argument with Clay before shooting him and Jenkins multiple times.

Robinson was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of assault with intent to murder, four counts of felony firearm and one count of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. He was denied bond and remanded back to jail.

If convicted, Robinson faces the possibility of life behind bars.
