DETROIT – Detroit residents and police officers came together for Walk a Mile Wednesday, a community tradition started by former Chief James White in 2021.
Wednesday’s (Aug. 6) walk took place in the Brightmoor and Castle Rouge neighborhoods, aiming to connect residents with officers face-to-face to discuss community issues.
Chief Todd Bettison emphasized the importance of these walks this summer amid a recent surge in teen violence.
“Well, we have not lost hope. We are out here. Detroit is strong, and this community is strong, and we won’t stop until we get violence at an acceptable level.
Walk a Mile Wednesday happens every two weeks throughout the summer.
Residents can find details about upcoming walks on the Detroit Police Department’s Facebook page.
