Latin, Caribbean restaurant with a speakeasy twist opens in Downtown Detroit

Grand opening includes food, cocktails and live entertainment

DETROIT – A new Latin/Caribbean experience and basement speakeasy is setting the table and getting ready to serve its customers starting today.

Baru is opening at 1407 Randolph St., Suite 100 in Downtown Detroit.

The restaurant is hosting a grand opening Thursday, Aug. 7 at 4 p.m. which features a ribbon-cutting ceremony, live entertainment, signature bites and cocktails, plus a first look at the rich flavors and vibrant culture that Baru brings to the city.

According to Baru, its restaurant is “always delivering the unique and colorful tastes of our dynamic culture, with a menu that features everything from traditional dishes to modern interpretations.”

It features an intimate speakeasy, named Por, in the basement. Por’s programming includes live entertainment and burlesque shows.
