The coworker, Angelo Micale, survived the shooting.
Motley was arrested a few hours after the shooting and reportedly confessed at the time.
In 2019, Motley was found guilty of first-degree murder, two counts of felony firearm, assault with intent to murder, and a dangerous weapon charge and was sentenced to life in prison.
The conviction was later overturned after his trial counsel was found to be ineffective.
On June 20, 2025, a jury found Motley guilty of first-degree premeditated murder and going armed with a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent. The jury rejected the claim that Motley was legally insane.
Motley was sentenced on Aug. 7, 2025, to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
