DETROIT – A 14-year-old boy from Detroit is facing charges after he stole a car from a woman, drove recklessly, and then crashed the car early Monday morning, officials said.

The crash happened at about 4:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 11, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

Officials say the boy stole the car from a 45-year-old Detroit woman and drove the stolen car recklessly at a high speed near Rockdale and Majestic streets.

He then lost control and crashed near a home in the 7300 block of Rockdale Street.

When officers arrived, the teen allegedly ran away from them, but was taken into custody after a brief chase.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The teen has been charged with receiving and concealing a stolen vehicle, resisting and obstructing a police officer, and leaving the scene of an accident, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled to happen Tuesday afternoon at the Juvenile Detention Facility in the Wayne County Criminal Justice Center.
