Hamtramck City Council meets amid election fraud charges against 2 members

Both council members are expected to return to court by the end of the month

HAMTRAMCK, Mich. – Hamtramck City Council is once again in the negative spotlight, meeting for the first time since Councilmen Muhtasin Sadman and Mohammed Hassan were both charged with election fraud.

Multiple felonies and misdemeanors suggest that the two allegedly forged absentee ballots during the 2023 primary and general elections.

Although both men were officially arraigned on charges in court on Tuesday (Aug. 12), only Sadman was present at the meeting, while Hassan was nowhere to be found. That didn’t stop residents from speaking their opinions during the public comment portion of the meeting.

“It’s sad to know that we have councilmen that care more about their about their position than standing with justice and their community,” said one person who spoke to the council.

It’s just adding to the list of problems starting to pile up for city leaders, as two other council members are being questioned about living outside the city, on top of the city manager and police chief being suspended and investigated for misconduct and corruption allegations.

Both council members are expected to return to court by the end of the month.

However, while this matter is under investigation, it appears that other council members are remaining tight-lipped as the investigation unfolds.
