Former Inkster mayor sentenced for bribery

$50,000 in bribes demanded for city property sale

INKSTER, Mich. – The former mayor of Inkster has been sentenced after he pleaded guilty to demanding $100,000 in bribes.

Patrick Wimberly served as mayor from 2019 to 2023.

According to authorities, Wimberly demanded cash payments to facilitate the sale of property owned by the city of Inkster to an outside party in 2022. The payments reportedly started at $5,000 per month, with Wimberly pushing for an increase to $10,000. The total amount given to him reached $50,000.

The FBI intervened before the property transfer could occur.

Wimberly was charged in 2023 and he pleaded guilty in September. He was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison.
