Pickup blows stop sign, kills 6 in Michigan’s Thumb

Investigation is ongoing

GILFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – More than a dozen people were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Tuscola County.

It happened just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, in Gilford Township, just east of Saginaw.

According to authorities, a pickup truck with three people inside was driving south on Vassar Road when it ignored the stop sign at Fairgrove Road, where it struck a westbound van.

Authorities said the van was carrying 10 members of an Amish family at the time of the crash. Occupants were ejected from both vehicles.

Authorities confirmed six people were killed and at least five people were injured, including children.

The investigation is ongoing.

It was the second crash that injured an Amish family in Michigan that day. Just hours later, an Amish buggy was hit by a pickup truck outside Grand Rapids, critically injuring six people.
