Police said someone had called 911 to report a disorderly man.
According to authorities, Dammeon Lamark Player was dispatched to the restaurant, got into an argument with the victim, and then used his taser on him.
Player then allegedly got out of his police cruiser, followed the victim down Woodward Avenue, before using his taser again and shoving him, causing him to fall into a cement wall and hit his head.
The man was hospitalized for treatment.
Player was charged on March 20, 2025, with misconduct in officer, assault with intent to do great bodily harm, and felonious assault.
He was given a $10,000 bond and was ordered not to contact the victim or any witnesses.
Player was forbidden from possessing any weapons or leaving Michigan.
A probable cause conference has been scheduled for April 1.
It’s not the first time Player has been accused of using unnecessary force.
He was charged in 2024 with assault with a dangerous weapon and misconduct in office for an incident that occurred when he worked as a Warren police officer.
If Player violates his probation, he’s ordered to nine months in the Wayne County Jail, must also enroll in cognitive behavioral therapy, serve 40 hours of community service, and must notify an agent if he has any police contact.
