DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings have bolstered their defensive lineup by signing veteran defenseman Travis Hamonic to a one year contract worth $1 million.

Hamonic, 34, brings extensive experience to the team, having played 900 NHL games with teams like the New York Islanders, Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks, and Ottawa Senators since the 2010-11 season.

Originally drafted by the New York Islanders in the second round of the 2008 NHL Draft, Hamonic has accumulated 242 points and 774 penalty minutes throughout his career.

Last season, Hamonic skated in 59 games with the Ottawa Senators, recording seven points (1-6-7), 19 penalty minutes, 72 shots, 92 blocks, and 73 hits in 17:04 average time on ice.

His experience and defensive skills are expected to be valuable assets for the Red Wings as they aim to strengthen their roster and make a significant push in the upcoming season.

For Red Wings fans, the one-year deal is a positive move. It provides the team with flexibility; if Hamonic struggles, the team can easily move on from the contract.

However, if he performs well, he offers a solid depth option at a reasonable price, making it a low-risk, potentially high-reward situation.
