MONROE, Mich. – Three teens were taken into custody after a police chase in Monroe County.

According to authorities, a stolen 2013 Ford Edge was spotted in Monroe Friday, Aug. 15, just after 7 p.m. The SUV had been stolen earlier that day from the Oakridge Estates Mobile Home Park in Monroe Township. A sheriff’s deputy attempted a traffic stop, but the Ford reportedly took off, reaching speeds of 80 mph on Elm Avenue.

When Elm Avenue dead-ended, the SUV allegedly drove off the road and through a fence, where three teens inside the Ford ran on foot. All three people were taken into custody shortly after.

The suspected driver, an 18-year-old from Monroe, has been arrested on charges of fleeing and eluding and receiving and concealing a stolen motor vehicle.

The two passengers -- a 15 and a 17-year-old -- were released to their parents with charges pending.

Authorities said evidence found inside the SUV suggests the teens were involved in multiple thefts across Metro Detroit.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office at 734-240-7758.
