Michigan lawsuit claims 10-year-old girl was sexually exploited on Roblox app

The suit further claims Roblox prioritizes financial gain over child welfare

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – An Oakland County mother is filing a lawsuit against Roblox after claims that her 10-year-old daughter was “sexploited” and groomed while using the app.

This game is extremely popular among children - it’s also extremely popular among adults.

For that reason, many are saying that it has to go.

Matthew Dolman with the Dolman Law group is filing the suit against Roblox.

“They knew for years, years, documented arrest, not just law enforcement investigations, not anecdotal information, actual, documented arrests of perpetrators crossing state lines to meet up with children that they met on the Roblox gaming platform that they groom. Is this a systemic problem?” said Dolman.

For that reason, Joe Couto won’t let his son anywhere near the app.

“My son played Roblox for a minute, but I had to stop him because of the simple fact that it was brought to my attention that the people on there are posing as kids and they’re not kids,” said Cuoto.

After multiple instances of kids being targeted, lawsuits against the company have been coming left and right.

“We so far have filed five lawsuits from our law firm. Another law firm leading the charge filed seven or eight of them,” Dolman said.

Age verification wasn’t implemented for the app until about three weeks ago, but Roblox itself says they’re taking measures to make the app safer.

“We are deeply troubled by any incident that endangers our users, and safety is a top priority. We dedicate substantial resources, including advanced technology and 24/7 human moderation, to help detect and prevent inappropriate content and behavior, including attempts to direct users off platform, where safety standards and moderation may be less stringent than ours. While no system is perfect, Roblox has implemented rigorous safeguards, including restrictions on sharing personal information, links, and user-to-user image sharing, and prohibiting sexual conversations.”

“They’ve lied repeatedly. Do I know if it’s safer? No. Are we still testing out those features, yes we are. But it doesn’t make a difference for all the harm that’s been done to all these children who’ve been victimized,” Dolman said.

“They just need to shut it down cause, regardless of either way it goes, they’re gonna figure out some type of way to exploit people. If they just shut it down, you wouldn’t have that problem,” Cuoto insisted.

Louisiana’s Attorney General is also jumping on the lawsuit train against Roblox - filing a child protection suit as well.

A lawsuit was officially filed against the mobile game that’s popular among children and teenagers.

This newly filed suit is now claiming the game enabled a 10-year-old to be sexploited by a predator she met on the app.

This is the latest in a long line of lawsuits filed against Roblox across the nation. Sexual exploitation, grooming, and abuse of minors on the platform.

Roblox implemented a change about 22 days ago.
