OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – After being closed for more than a month, Orion Road is expected to reopen Monday evening.
The road was closed indefinitely on July 16 after flooding washed a large chunk of it away. It happened near Dutton Road. The flooding came after storms caused the nearby Paint Creek to crest and flood onto Orion Road.

The road is expected to open Aug. 18.
Reconstruction has been challenging due to a water main and a gas main under the road that were compromised by the erosion. It took several days for the water to recede before repairs could begin.
Officials have fixed the culvert under the road, filled in the washed-away area, repaved the road, and installed new guardrails.
The Oakland County Road Commission said it expected the road to reopen when the repairs were completed, but repairs on the gas main remain ongoing.
Drivers have been detoured to Rochester Road, then to Tienken Road, Adams Road, and back to Orion Road.
