DETROIT – The Detroit Police Department is using a new alert system to get the word out about serious missing persons cases in the city, police announced Monday.
The new alert system is called the “Emerald Alert.”
People who subscribe will receive alerts about missing children under 10, people with special needs, possible kidnapping cases and other serious missing persons cases.
“This is a new way to let the community know about serious missing persons cases so that we can help ensure that we utilize the eyes and ears of our community to help locate them very, very quickly to prevent any loss of life,” Bettison said during a press conference on Monday, Aug. 18.
The chief said that they already share missing persons cases online and with the media, but this is an additional way Detroiters can get involved.
Emerald Alerts will be sent through the Detroit Alerts 365 notification system. For more information on how to sign up, visit here.
