Taylor man accused of killing brother, shooting sister denied bond

TAYLOR, Mich. – A 68-year-old man from Taylor is facing multiple felonies, including murder and attempted murder, following a Monday shooting.

The charges stem from an Aug. 18 assault of a 66-year-old woman, the killing of a 60-year-old man and the nonfatal shooting of a 67-year-old woman in Taylor.

Background: Man accused of shooting brother, sister at home in Taylor

According to authorities, police were dispatched to a home on Cass Avenue, near the intersection of Wick and Pardee roads, on reports of a shooting. Police said they found Walter Ray Swinea’s brother and sister in the front yard with multiple gunshot wounds.

The two were rushed to a hospital, where Roy Swinea Jr. died from his injuries.

Police believe Walter Ray Swinea assaulted his girlfriend and got into an argument with his brother and sister. He allegedly shot both siblings with a gun multiple times. He was arrested at the scene.

Walter Ray Swinea was charged Thursday, Aug. 21, with second-degree murder, assault with intent to murder, domestic violence, assault and battery and two counts of felony firearm.

He was denied bond and remanded back to jail.
