Residents react to arrest of suspect in Henry Ford Hospital killing

Detroit neighborhood on edge as police arrest suspect accused of killing ex-wife

DETROIT – A quiet Detroit neighborhood is shaken following a heavy police presence during a manhunt for a suspect accused of killing his ex-wife at Henry Ford Hospital on Friday.

In less than 24 hours, Detroit police located and arrested 53-year-old Mario Green without incident, police said.

The search ended just before 3:00 a.m. Saturday on the 5200 block of Lemay Street on the city’s east side, according to the department.

Residents described the sprawling law enforcement scene, which included the Detroit Police Department, Michigan State Police, ATF and more.

The search area spanned from Schoemaker Street to East Warren Avenue, neighbors told Local 4.

“That was senseless, man. It’s too much killing going on,” said Reginald Clark, who grew up in the neighborhood.

Neighbors pointed out an empty lot where police found Green’s car, a different make and model than his original getaway car, which investigators located hours after the deadly shooting of Latricia Green.

“I’m glad they caught the guy. Get him off the streets,” said Anthony Neely, a resident.

Another neighbor, Vincent Lewis, recalled the intense police activity near his home.

“All I know is about three, four cops sitting right here. You could hear the radio going off – telling him to come outside,” he said.

After Local 4 concluded the interview, Lewis also found a Henry Ford Hospital visitor pass from the day of the shooting, left behind after police cleared the scene.

“I don’t know if he brought this here with him,” Lewis said. “Like he just wanted to leave a clue or something.”
