WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – A traffic stop for speeding led to Michigan State Police learning that the driver had multiple warrants for his arrest.
A Michigan State Police trooper pulled over a driver traveling 104 mph on I-75 near Huron River in Rockwood on Aug. 25 just before 7 p.m.

Authorities said that the trooper interviewed the 36-year-old driver from Detroit and learned he didn’t have a license.
When the trooper asked the Detroit man to step out of the car, he allegedly began resisting arrest and tried running into the road while reportedly making statements about wanting to harm himself. He was taken to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.
Michigan State Police troopers used a portable fingerprint scanner to learn his identity and found that the driver had warrants for his arrest for driving on a suspended license and in Ohio for strangulation, burglary and escape.
“Often a traffic stop turns into something totally different,” said F/Lt. Mike Shaw. “Great work by the trooper to not only get this dangerous driver off our roads, but also get him the mental health treatment he needed.”
