Built in the mid-1980s, this interchange handles about 20,000 vehicles daily.
The project includes resurfacing the bridge deck, patching railings and beams, and replacing bridge bearings under the southbound bridge over I-94.
Southbound traffic will be redirected via eastbound Ford Road (M-153).
For eastbound I-94, drivers will detour using Ford Road to McGraw Avenue and southbound Weir Street.
Westbound I-94 traffic will follow Ford Road, southbound Wyoming Avenue, and westbound Michigan Avenue (US-12).
In spring 2026, the southbound Southfield Freeway ramp to eastbound I-94 will close again for most of the year, with traffic detoured via Ford Road to I-94.
This work aligns with the four-year I-94 project from east of I-275 to Michigan Avenue at the Dearborn/Detroit border.
Improvements to the remaining 13 bridges in the I-94/Southfield Freeway interchange will occur as part of this project.
