Traffic stop in Warren leads to DUI arrest, recovery of stolen Syracuse PD gun from 1979

Troopers said the driver was given field sobriety tests with multiple clues of impairment observed

A man has been arrested following a traffic stop in Warren while driving under the influence.

WARREN, Mich. – A man has been arrested following a traffic stop in Warren while driving under the influence.

The incident occurred on Wednesday (Aug. 27) at 12:05 a.m. in the area of Dequindre Road and 8 Mile Road.

Michigan State Police Troopers said they saw the driver make an improper turn onto a residential street before accelerating to 45 miles per hour in a 25 miles per hour zone.

Troopers said a stop was conducted, and the driver was contacted.

MSP said when speaking with the driver, numerous signs of intoxication were detected, along with the driver admitting to consuming alcohol.

Troopers said the driver was given field sobrety tests with multiple clues of impairment obsered.

Police said when taking the man into custody, during handcuffing, he resisted arrest and attempted to break free and run.

Troopers said the man was quickly tackled, and a brief struggle ensued on the ground.

MSP said during the fight, the man attempted to produce a handgun from his underwear; however, Troopers quickly regained control of the suspect without injury.

Troopers said the mans firearm returned stolen from Syracuse, New York, Police Department from 1979.

Police said the man was being held at the Macomb County Jail pending review by the prosecutor.
