Man kidnapped on Detroit’s west side found with his burning SUV on east side

Police investigate potential motives behind kidnapping

DETROIT – A man in his 60s was hospitalized after a west side kidnapping and car fire on Detroit’s east side.

Authorities said the man was taken against his will from outside his home on Vernor Highway, near Woodmere Street, at about 5 a.m., Monday, Sept. 1.

Update: Man abducted, beaten, found tied up alongside burning car on Detroit’s west side

He was found hours later with his burning SUV on Mount Elliot Street, south of Seven Mile Road, roughly 10 miles away.

Police said the man had been beaten.

He was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries and is expected to survive.

The investigation is ongoing.
