Detroit Health Department to host free annual Block Party offering services

Vaccines and screenings offered for back-to-school

DETROIT – The Detroit Health Department will host its fourth annual Block Party this Saturday, offering free health screenings, vaccines, and wellness resources to local families.

The event, themed “Wellness on the Block,” aims to provide accessible healthcare services to Detroit residents at a crucial time when many families are preparing for the new school year.

“Our goal is to provide health and wellness resources directly to where residents are,” says Denise Fair Razo, Detroit’s Chief Public Health Officer.

The Block Party will feature a wide range of services, including:

  • Hearing and vision screenings
  • Immunizations
  • Nutrition guidance
  • Health screenings
  • CDC-recommended vaccines

“We have every CDC-recommended vaccine from MMR, that’s our measles, mumps, and rubella. Diphtheria, HPV. You name it, we have it,” Fair Razo explains.

The Health Department emphasizes its commitment to making healthcare accessible to all Detroit residents.

“We want Detroiters to prioritize their health. It shouldn’t be a question about whether they can come to the Health Department to get their vaccine,” says Fair Razo. “We accept all insurances, and our goal is to make vaccines accessible.”

The department also offers COVID-19, RSV, and flu vaccinations to ensure comprehensive coverage for the community.

The 4th Annual Block Party event will begin with a Safe Sleep Walk-N-Rally at 11 a.m., followed by the main Block Party from noon to 4 p.m.
