SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Southfield Police Department honored acts of bravery and heroism.
It was all part of the fifth annual Department Award Ceremony held on Wednesday (Sept. 3).
Southfield police Chief Elvin Barren was the master of ceremonies.
Among those honored were officers Brandon Walker and Arthur Bridgeforth and security guard Davario King for their roles in stopping a student at Southfield A&T High School who had a handgun last year.
Leaders said their training likely saved lives that day.
“Thanks to the quick thinking and de-escalating skills of officer Walker and officer Bridgeforth, with the assistance of security supervisor King, an actual dangerous situation was prevented. It is this type of confidence and expertise that can often make the difference between life or death.”
Southfield police Deputy Chief Jeffrey Jagielski
Also being honored were the trainers, who ensure officers are ready for anything. And the 911 dispatchers who coordinate critical help for people in need.
