DETROIT – The clock is ticking for the Powerball drawing! The historic jackpot is smashing records -- at $1.8 billion.
A party store in Detroit just sold a $2 million winning ticket on Wednesday. Many people were at the Sunkiss Liquor Store hoping luck will strike twice.
“I need the money so I can quit the job,” said Eric.
Eric said he had to stop and buy a ticket when he discovered the Powerball jackpot had grown to a historic $1.8 billion.
He was one of many at the party store on Detroit’s west side feeling lucky.
At $1.8 billion, this is the second-largest drawing in US history.
If someone matches all five numbers and the Powerball on Saturday night, they can choose a lump sum payment of $826 million before taxes.
A Powerball ticket costs $2, and if no one wins the jackpot on Sept. 6, that cash prize will just keep on growing.
