Macomb County boat explosion injures 2, kills dog

Foul play not suspected

ST CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – A dog was killed in a boat explosion in St. Clair Shores over the weekend.

It happened at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Emerald City Harbor. Video captured the boat carrying two individuals and a dog exploding seconds after refueling at the gas dock.

According to authorities, the two people were thrown into the water, suffering minor injuries. The dog was taken to an emergency veterinary hospital, where it died from its injuries.

When first responders arrived, the boat was almost entirely underwater with pieces floating on the surface. The dock was also damaged.

Due to the contamination of fuel and oil in the water, environmental services were requested.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation. Foul play is not suspected.
