Stray bullet hits fire station on Detroit’s east side

No injuries reported

DETROIT – Detroit police are working to find out who fired shots near a fire station Sunday night.

A stray bullet hit Engine 50 firehouse on the city’s east side on Sept. 7 at the intersection of Whittier and Lakepointe near I-94.

Police said the shots were fired across the street from the fire station.

Detroit Fire Chief David Nelson issued a statement saying, “This incident is a stark reminder of the dangers that reckless gunfire poses to everyone in our community.”

“Detroit firefighters dedicate their lives to protecting our residents, and they should never have to worry about their own safety while inside their station,” he said.
