The caller told dispatch that a blue 2002 Chevrolet Silverado was “chasing them and trying to crash into them” as they were heading northbound on Lewis Avenue, north of Ida West Road, in Raisinville Township, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy located the truck and tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the suspect fled, heading southbound on Lewis Avenue.

During the pursuit, the truck stopped, made a U-turn and then started to ram into the police car before continuing to travel southbound on Lewis Avenue.

After that, the suspect vehicle went west on Ida West Road, tried to make another U-Turn and hit the patrol car again before coming to a stop between a fence and the police car, according to the sheriff’s office.

The driver, a 31-year-old Lambertville man, was taken into custody without incident for fleeing and eluding and felonious assault on a police officer.

He is being lodged at the Monroe County Jail. His name is being withheld pending his arraignment.

A 31-year-old woman and three kids, ages 12, 6 and 4, were also in the car at the time of the pursuit.

“Both the male driver and female passenger appeared to be having a mental health episode and were in a delusional state,” the sheriff’s office said.

The woman and three kids didn’t appear to be hurt, but were taken to a hospital for medical evaluations.

The kids were also turned over to Child Protective Services.
