OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – An Oakland County man was sentenced Tuesday in connection with two cases involving 16 car thefts and other related crimes, officials said.
On Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025, David Elliot, 37, of Madison Heights, was sentenced to up to 20 years in prison on 34 counts across both cases, according to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.

In the late summer and early fall of 2023, Elliot and his codefendants were involved in the theft of 16 cars and the attempted theft of seven other cars. A firearm was also stolen, officials said.
He was taken into custody on Sept. 25, 2023, while trying to steal a car from the parking lot of the West Bloomfield Henry Ford Hospital.
Elliot was convicted after he pleaded no contest to multiple charges, according to the prosecutor’s office.
He is scheduled to appear in court again on October 15 for a restitution hearing, where the court will determine the amount the defendant must pay to compensate the victims.
Elliot’s codefendant, Demareo Scott, was convicted in 2024, and another codefendant, Dominique Buttrom, died in 2024 before trial.
“David Elliott’s crime spree resulted in the theft of vehicles worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. He disrupted victims’ lives, took their property, and upended their sense of safety,” said Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald. “This sentence sends a clear message that auto thieves will be held accountable in Oakland County.”
