Ford announces Glass House will be demolished as company moves to new headquarters

New headquarters in Dearborn to officially open in November

DEARBORN, Mich. – Ford Motor Company announced that the Glass House will be demolished as the company moves to its new headquarters in Dearborn.

On Monday, Sept. 15, 2025, Ford unveiled its new Henry Ford II World Center as an “upgraded and reimagined Dearborn product development campus.”

Construction on the new campus is ongoing. The majority of the facility is expected to be completed this year, but work will continue through 2027 on a final section of the site, Ford said.

The new headquarters will officially open in November. All employees will be allowed to visit the campus to work, collaborate, or see it for themselves, Ford said.

Once it’s fully completed, up to 4,000 people can work from the new headquarters. Ford said 14,000 employees will be within a 15-minute walk from the new world headquarters building.

Ford said it will bring “thousands of our engineering, design, and technology team members together in one collaborative space -- twice the size of our current HQ, and built to accommodate double the employees -- to innovate and solve problems faster than ever before.”

The headquarters will also be opened for public tours.

Fate of Glass House

The Glass House was the center of Ford’s global operations for almost 70 years, but the company said it needs a different kind of space to succeed in the future.

“The future of our industry demands a different kind of space -- one that is more connected, more flexible, and built for the speed of a technology- and software-driven company,” the company said in a release.

Once Ford employees have left the Glass House, it will be decommissioned and demolished over the course of about 18 months, the company announced.

The site will be repurposed as “an asset to our teams and our community.”

“We are working with the city of Dearborn on a plan for how the site can best serve our employees and neighbors, and we will have more to share about those plans later,” the release says.
