CADILLAC, Mich. – A 34-year-old man who was extradited to Michigan from the other side of the country has pleaded to 2018 crimes against a then-15-year-old girl.

According to authorities, Edward Eugene Smith, 28 at the time and living in Michigan, manipulated a high school student roughly half his age to pose partially naked while he photographed her in his apartment. His roommate reportedly found the photos and contacted police.

Smith was charged in 2018 and he left the state. He was recently arrested in Seattle, Washington, and extradited back to Michigan on those 2018 charges.

He pled no contest to one count each of child sexually abusive activity, accosting a minor for immoral purposes and using a computer to commit child sexually abusive activity.

Authorities said Smith pleaded as a habitual offender after he was convicted in 2010 of assault with intent to commit sexual penetration on a different 15-year-old Michigan child.

Smith will be sentenced Oct. 23.
