Large dead dog found in grease pit behind Oakland County restaurant

Animal cruelty investigation underway

MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. – The body of a bullmastiff was found in a grease pit behind a Madison Heights restaurant.

It was found Friday, Sept. 19, near the intersection of John R Road and Woodward Heights Boulevard. According to authorities, the owner of the business was discarding grease when he found the body and reached out to Madison Heights Animal Control.

The case was referred to Oakland County Animal Control, which is investigating the death as a possible case of animal cruelty.

Because the dog weighed more than 100 pounds and was wrapped in a grease-soaked blanket, a Search and Rescue team was called to help remove the body. Winches were used to remove the dog’s body, which was then taken to Animal Control for examination.
