WARREN, Mich. – More people are getting hit by cars in Warren. The numbers have increased this year. Warren police want to curb the trend and educate the public with some reminders.
According to Warren police, people are jaywalking, standing in the median or crossing near an intersection but not at the crosswalk.
“A lot of people struck by cars lose limbs. They have life-changing injuries that can affect them for the rest of their life,” said Warren Police Detective Matt Accivatti.
In 2024, 11 pedestrians in Warren were hit. Nine people suffered serious injuries, and two people have died.
So far in 2025, 14 pedestrians have been hit. Eleven were seriously injured and three were killed.
“The numbers were eye-opening,” said Warren Police Lt. John Gajewski. “We looked at the numbers, and we were all surprised.”
The safest thing people can do is cross when they have the right of way.
Police are reminding drivers to put down their phones, pay attention and slow down.
Pedestrians should wear reflective or bright-colored clothing and cross at designated areas.
