Active pipe bomb found at Upper Peninsula gun range safely defused

KINROSS TOWNSHIP, Mich. – An Upper Peninsula gun range was briefly closed on Wednesday after a pipe bomb was found.

It happened at a gun range off Gaines Highway in Kinross Township, about 30 miles north of the Mackinac Bridge.

Michigan State Police troopers were dispatched to the range just after 10:30 a.m. Sept. 24. The Bomb Squad deployed a robot to confirm the pipe bomb was active.

Police safely rendered the bomb inert at the scene, and the gun range reopened shortly after.
