Eastpointe police identify person involved in sexual assault of 12-year-old; suspect caught in New York

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office said it is working on the suspect’s extradition

EASTPOINTE, Mich. – A 12-year-old victim reported being sexually assaulted by an unknown suspect in Eastpointe.

The incident occurred on Monday (Sept. 22).

The Eastpointe Detective Bureau and Special Investigation Unit said they quickly identified the perpetrator shortly after the report was made.

Police said a search warrant was executed, but the suspect had already fled the scene.

During the search, investigators said they recovered evidence suggesting there may be additional victims.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office said it promptly reviewed the case and issued an arrest warrant for the suspect.

Eastpointe Special Investigations Unit collaborated with the U.S. Marshals Service offices in Detroit and Buffalo, as well as the New York State Police, to apprehend the suspect.

Police stated that the suspect is currently incarcerated in New York.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office said it is working on the suspect’s extradition.
