Man arrested on multiple warrants after being found asleep in car blocking Wayne County road

Driver of car also arrested for multiple outstanding warrants

WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – Police arrested a man sleeping in a car that was blocking a road in Wayne County after learning he and the driver of the car had multiple warrants out for his arrest.

According to a criminal complaint, the investigation began when Dearborn police went to the 4600 block of Rosalie on Sept. 14, 2025, in response to a report of a car blocking the road.

When officers arrived, they found a white Kia Soul parked at an angle across the street, blocking the road. Officers saw two people inside the car sleeping, one in the driver’s seat and one in the passenger’s seat, with the car’s gear still in drive.

When the driver, who was not identified, and Duane Ruff woke up, they explained to police that they were working for DoorDash, became tired and fell asleep.

Law enforcement looked up the information on the driver and learned she was wanted for 12 outstanding warrants.

Law enforcement also looked up the information on Ruff and learned he was wanted for five outstanding warrants.

According to the complaint, neither had a Concealed Pistol License.

The driver and Ruff were arrested due to the outstanding warrants.

While officers were searching the car, they found a handgun, a wallet and what they believed to be controlled substance in the car’s glovebox.

Officers, through further investigation, learned the handgun was reported stolen in Kentucky.

The complaint went through Ruff’s criminal history and stated he had several felony convictions, including the following:

  • Ruff was convicted of Felony-Weapons-Firearm-Possession by Felon, Felony Weapons-Carrying Concealed and Felony Firearm on Dec. 10, 2007. He was sentenced on Jan. 3, 2008, to concurrent terms of one year and six months in prison on the Firearm-Possession by a felon and Carrying Concealed charges, and two years consecutive on the Felony Firearm charge.
  • Ruff pleaded guilty to Weapons-Carrying Concealed on Sept. 8, 2023. On Oct. 10, 2023, he was sentenced to two years’ probation with the first 12 months to be served in Wayne County Jail.

Ruff faces a federal charge of Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
