Novi residents feel impact as water main break disrupts their daily lives

Crews are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible

NOVI, Mich. – Residents in Novi are experiencing the effects of a water main break on Novi Road and 14 Mile Road. It’s led to a lot of headaches.

“It’s rough, especially every time you take your dog for a walk and you pick up its poop - you realize, ‘Oh, I’ve gotta wash my hands and no water’s coming out of the sink,’” said Dave Szraki.

Dave and John Mehl are just two of many Novi residents filling up on H20 after a water main break cripples the community.

“The biggest issue is flushing the toilets. I’ve got plenty of drinking water but nothing to flush the toilets with,” said John.

The water problem was so severe that Rebecca Mellem had to pick up her daughter from school, as the class had been canceled due to the water main break.

“Thankfully, I was at work and my mom was able to step in and help out. But it sounds like they have a good plan for tomorrow in school. I know they have water bottles,” said Mellem.

Tony Ishibachi is just glad that some help is being offered, even if it’s something as simple as water coming from the hose.

“We can use it for the bathrooms and maybe to wash our faces. We’re just really trying to get ready for overnight cause I don’t think it’s coming back,” said Ishibachi.

Until the water situation is handled, residents are holding onto hope that it will be in a timely manner.

“We’ll be fine. As long as it’s up and running in the next day or so, we should be ok,” said Dave.

The Great Lakes Water Authority is closely monitoring the water main break.

Crews are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
