Fake DTE workers trial: Audio of murder scene in basement, video of Oakland County wife duct taped

‘He might be in the basement,’ woman told police

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – Video showed during the trial for the fake DTE Energy workers accused of murdering a Rochester Hills man in his home showed the man’s wife answering the door for police with her wrists bound and included audio of officers finding the murder scene in the basement.

Carlos Jose Hernandez, 37, and Joshua Zuazo, 39, are charged with felony murder and two counts of unlawful imprisonment in connection with the murder of Hussein Murray, 72, of Rochester Hills.

During the first day of witness testimony on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025, the prosecution called Oakland County Sheriff’s Detective Tasray Copeland to the stand.

Copeland’s testimony included body camera footage of police arriving at the Rochester Hills home on Oct. 11, 2024.

Murray’s wife, Linda Murray, answered the door with her wrists bound by duct tape.

“Is anyone else in the house?” the officer asked.

“My husband,” she said. “I don’t know where he is. The people that were here are gone.”

“She has duct tape around her wrists,” the officer said into his radio.

Video shows the officer following Linda Murray into the kitchen, where she grabbed some scissors. The officer helped her cut the tape and free her wrists.

While officers escorted her outside so they could check the house, they asked if she knew where her husband had gone.

“He might be in the basement, I don’t know,” she said.

The video at the top of this page shows the police interaction with Linda Murray.

Police ultimately discovered Hussein Murray’s body in the basement. The video was not shown by our cameras, but the audio played in the courtroom. You can watch the full proceedings from the body cam footage in the video below.
