Firefighter injured after falling through floor while putting out flames in Detroit home

Firefighter taken to hospital with burn injuries

DETROIT – A Detroit firefighter was injured after falling through the floor of a home while trying to put out flames early Thursday morning.

A fire erupted at a home in the 14200 block of Corbett at around 5:20 a.m. on Oct. 2.

Crews at the scene learned the home appeared to be vacant, and the fire was coming from the back of the house on the first and second floors.

While battling the flames from inside the home, a firefighter fell through the floor from the first floor to the basement.

According to the Detroit Fire Department, he was quickly recovered. He was taken to a hospital with burn injuries and is expected to be okay.

Crews were able to put out the fire by 6:45 a.m. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
