Oakland County man killed while walking across I-75 near his hotel, police say

Driver called 911, stayed at scene

OAKLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. – An Oakland County man was killed overnight while he walked across I-75 near his hotel, police said.

The crash happened at 12:56 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2025, in the southbound lanes of I-75 near Chrysler Drive in Auburn Hills.

Police said a 40-year-old Oakland Township man was crossing the southbound lanes of I-75 when he was struck by a black Volkswagen Jetta.

Auburn Hills police and firefighters found the man dead when they arrived. They said he had been staying at a hotel next to the freeway.

The 40-year-old Ohio man driving the Jetta stopped at the scene, called 911, and is cooperating with the investigation, police said.

The Southeast Oakland County Crash Investigation Team -- which includes investigators from Auburn Hills, Bloomfield Township, Troy, Bloomfield Hills, Birmingham, and Clawson -- is investigating the crash.
