Activist and minister Malik Shabazz, the leader of the New Black Panther Nation/Marcus Garvey Movement, is back in the hospital with an infection linked to the heart attack he suffered in 2023.
The family informed Local 4 on Monday (Oct. 7).
Shabazz has been through a lot, including a long hospital stay, time on a respirator, and getting a heart pump implanted.
His family says he’s getting the best care at Henry Ford Hospital and wants to thank everyone for the support they’ve shown him during this tough time.
The community activist was hospitalized on Nov. 14, 2024, the day after Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan gave him a shoutout during his announcement that he would not run for office for a fourth term.
Prior to rehabilitation treatment, Shabazz had been on a respirator, received a temporary, then permanent, heart pump implant, subsequently battled an infection, and continued to improve after suffering a massive heart attack in June 2023.
