MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – The 42-year-old man who was found guilty of murder in a deadly head-on crash on I-696 in 2023 was sentenced.
Stephano Ramon Nabors was convicted on Aug. 28 by a jury of second-degree murder, operating vehicle while intoxicated causing death, reckless driving causing death, driving while license suspended causing death and fleeing and eluding.

According to authorities, on May 5, 2023, Nabors drunkenly drove the wrong way on I-696 in Macomb County and crashed into two cars, killing one of the drivers.
Prosecutors said Nabors drove eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-696, initially colliding with a vehicle near Couzens Road at about 5 a.m., causing it to roll over.
When Michigan State Police entered I-696 to investigate, Nabors nearly collided head-on with their patrol car and continued to speed off.
The chase ended when Nabors crashed head-on with another vehicle near Gratiot Avenue, killing the 62-year-old driver from Harper Woods.
Nabors was sentenced on Oct. 9, 2025, to 30 to 60 years in prison.
