NOVI, Mich. – As colder weather approaches, now is the time to winterize homes and the Novi Home Show offers practical advice to help homeowners prepare.
Forrest Wall of the Home Builders Association of Southeastern Michigan emphasized the importance of energy efficiency.
“Energy efficiency is a huge topic,” he said. “We really encourage people to work with their utility. Work with contractors who can come out and assess your house and take a look at the things that you may not know that’s reducing your energy efficiency.”
The Novi Home Show, held at the Suburban Collection Showplace, serves as a one-stop shop for home improvement needs.
Visitors can explore the latest in manufactured modular homes and get ideas from local experts.
Tina Charnitsky said she appreciates the pressure-free environment.
“I was sold a brand-new townhouse a couple of years ago and it was structurally defective,” she said.
So, she’s looking for the best option for her.
In addition to home improvement, the event also sits next door to the Novi Pet Expo which offers pet supplies, apparel and adoption opportunities.
Mark England, a volunteer with No Dogs Left Behind, explained how the organization gets their pups ready to find their furever home.
“We find homes for them. We bring them in. We love them. We teach them,” he said.
Ethan Wilhelm, founder of The Canine Stars, shared a heartwarming story about one of his performing dogs, Kevin.
The dog came to last year’s expo, but not with the road traveling show.
“We met Kevin here last year and he was only about eight weeks old and we took him home with us,” Wilhelm said. “One of our main things, we want it to be cool to brag about your rescue. A lot of people like to brag about the dog they got from a breeder or how much they spent on a dog. I think it’s cool to say, ‘Hey, this dog was going to be euthanized and now they’re out here doing backflips or now they just jump 24 feet into the ball pit.”
