ROSEVILLE, Mich. – A man was shot by police after he rammed a patrol car and approached officers with a knife outside the Roseville Police Department early Monday morning, according to police.
Police say it happened around 4:30 a.m. when a 36-year-old man drove his silver Pontiac G5 into the back of a police cruiser parked outside the station on VFW Memorial Drive. According to authorities, an officer was inside the vehicle at the time, preparing to respond to a call.
After the collision, police say the suspect exited his vehicle armed with a knife. Two officers at the scene ordered him to drop the weapon as he moved toward them. When the suspect failed to comply with commands, both officers discharged their weapons, striking him, according to police.
Police say the suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he remains.
In the suspect’s Roseville neighborhood, residents expressed shock at the incident.
“I’m just so surprised. I just can’t believe anything like that would ever happen,” said neighbor Debra Closurdo.
The police officer inside the parked cruiser suffered minor injuries, police said.
Law enforcement maintained an active crime scene throughout the afternoon, with police tape cordoning off a section of VFW Memorial Drive as investigators collected evidence.
The Macomb County Sheriff’s Department is now handling the investigation.
