Metro Detroit entrepreneur survives ‘absolutely targeted’ shooting outside Macomb County home

Police still seek shooter

MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A prominent Metro Detroit entrepreneur is reportedly in good spirits after being the victim of a targeted shooting outside his home.

Authorities are still looking for whoever is responsible.

Eddie Jawad was shot just before 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025, at his Macomb Township home as he was backing out of his driveway.

“Someone was lying in wait. You could see him between the two cars, coming out with a gun and shooting immediately,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido. “This was in front of the man’s house, where his family is, where his wife is. This is ridiculous.”

Aerial video showed at least a dozen police officers and Macomb County Sheriff’s Office deputies walking around in front of the home after the shooting.

Lucido has known Jawad for years. Last December, he stood beside Jawad at the ribbon-cutting for his gas station at 23 Mile and VanDyke. Jawad owns several gas stations and has spoken out against the expansion of the Pennsylvania-based chain Sheetz in the area.

“Eddie, he wanted to make sure what is in his mind and what was his heart, it was coming out of his mouth,” Lucido said. “So I appreciate those kinds of people. They’re not holding back.”

Jawad was discharged from the hospital later that day. Lucido said he will likely go back to work immediately.

“It’s not going to stop him,” Lucido said.

Faye Nemer, CEO and founder of the Middle East and North African American Chamber of Commerce, described Jawad as someone who consistently gives back to his community.

“One of the ways that he gives back to the small business community is through his advocacy and his efforts to ensure that they have an equitable chance at operating their businesses,” Nemer said.

Jawad came to the U.S. at an early age and attended Cass Tech in Detroit, Nemer said. Initially involved in the ROTC program, he chose to pursue a business career instead. Starting as an employee in the gas station sector, he learned the intricacies of the business before becoming an owner and expanding his operations.

Nemer said the shooting at Jawad’s home was “absolutely targeted,” but added that they are still working to learn more about what happened. Multiple shots were fired at Jawad’s vehicle at close range in broad daylight in front of his home.

“To be quite honest, it is a miracle that he came out alive,” Nemer said. “He’s in high spirits. You know, he even remarked, ‘I still have eight lives left.’ So he definitely feels like he has a new lease on life.”

Nemer urged local authorities to prioritize the investigation and said the shooting has prompted business owners to take extra precautions.

A suspect has not yet been identified. Investigators are seeking information about a dark SUV spotted heading eastbound on 24 Mile Road from Wellington Valley Drive at about 10:15 a.m. Tuesday.

“When these individuals or individual is caught, they’re going to be brought to justice for doing what they did because there’s no excuse,” Lucido said. “And we will not tolerate that here in Macomb County.”
