Detroit students trade classrooms for construction site training at historic Lee Plaza

75 high school students received hands-on training during the event

DETROIT – Seventy-five Detroit high school students traded their classrooms for construction sites Thursday, getting hands-on experience in skilled trades at the historic Lee Plaza.

The event, organized by Sachse Construction in partnership with Junior Achievement, The Roxbury Group, and the City of Detroit, offered students practical training in carpentry, masonry, HVAC, and electrical work.

The initiative is part of Careers in Construction Month, aimed at developing Detroit’s next generation of skilled workers. Students received direct exposure to various construction trades at the Lee Plaza site, a significant Detroit landmark undergoing renovation.

Sachse Construction CEO Todd Sachse highlighted the Sachse Construction Academy’s efforts to get high school students hands-on experience at construction sites, showing them the opportunities available in the skilled trades.
