DETROIT – A home at the corner of Campbell and Eldred, bedecked in Halloween decorations, became the scene of a violent late‑night shooting Wednesday that left a teenager inside the house injured and neighbors shaken.
“I heard the closest gunshots that I ever heard in my life, like 100 of them, just went off a minute,” said a nearby resident who asked to be identified only as Tony.
Every window on the side of the house where the shooting occurred showed visible damage from gunfire. Surveillance cameras mounted around the property may provide investigators with leads, but Detroit police say the four suspects described by witnesses remain at large.
Tony said he overheard one of the attackers shouting repeatedly and accusing someone of hurting his family. “He kept saying that over and over,” Tony recalled.
Officers responding to the scene set up a perimeter and called for tourniquets while canvassing the neighborhood. Witnesses described the suspects as four men wearing black clothing.
Longtime neighbors said the violence has left them rethinking how safe the area feels.
“It’s kind of concerning because over the past decade it’s got a lot better with gunshots. I hear them a lot less and less. Then for so many to be heard in one night, is it really getting better or how’s it going?” Tony asked.
Many residents said they’re considering adding security measures after seeing the damage and learning a teen was injured in what was otherwise a quiet residential block.
“Maybe get a camera around. Just be more vigilant,” Tony said. “You know, because this could have been us. Like, we’re right here.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Detroit Police. Authorities have not released additional details about the injured teen’s condition or the motive behind the shooting.
